Entries open for Al Marmoom Short-Film Competition

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is issuing an open call to emerging filmmakers and creatives from around the world to submit their entries for the Al Marmoom Short-Film Competition.

The contest, as part of the fourth Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert festival, aims to boost the local film scene, offering an innovative platform for filmmakers to showcase their work and inspire new talent.

Applications are open from August 14 to September 30, 2024, after which a panel of experts, including directors and filmmakers, will review the entries and select the finalists.

The competition culminates in a film festival, which will be held at Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve from January 3 to 12, 2025.

It features four categories: documentaries, animated films, live-action, and films created with artificial intelligence.

Entries will be judged based on quality and content, with a focus on originality and creativity. Films should be between 3 and 30 minutes long, free of offensive material, and must be original works that have not been previously showcased at other festivals or events.

Participants must also hold all rights to their films.

Al Marmoom festival aims to foster the growth of the regional film industry through its competitions, screenings, workshops, and discussions. It offers a platform for emerging talents to refine their skills and gain exposure, while also providing a rich cultural experience for the public.

The third edition of the festival showcased over 70 films from Emirati, Gulf, Arab and international filmmakers, and included a range of talks, workshops and exhibitions.
