The invitation to BTS comes as part of a drive to diversify the Recording Academy that chooses the annual Grammy Awards.
The seven-member boy band, are among 1,300 artists, writers and music professionals invited to join the Los Angeles-based academy.
Should the pop group accept the invitation, they will be eligible to vote in the 2020 Grammy Awards, the highest honours in the music business.
BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, formed in Seoul in 2013 and took the US pop market by storm in 2017. They even became the first Korean group to win a Billboard music award.
In 2019, the band was nominated for a Grammy Award for their album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’. That same year, they made their first appearance at the ceremony in February.
