Ireland are through to the knockout stages, after beating Italy 16-9. Keith Earls got the only try of a tight match, with Johnny Sexton’s kicking proving invaluable for the Irish. It was their third straight win in Pool D and puts them top, just ahead of France, who they play in their final group game. Although both already qualified, each side will be desperate for the win to claim top spot, and therefore avoid a meeting with New Zealand in the next round.
