Six Nations: Wales win as Ireland stumble

Wales wing George North crosses for his try during the RBS Six Nations match between Wales and Scotland.

Wales produced a late surge to beat Scotland 27-23 in Cardiff. After being pushed hard for an hour, the hosts scored two tries in the final twenty minutes to secure their ninth-straight win over Scotland, and their first of their 2016 Six Nations campaign. Tommy Seymour's try cancelled out Gareth Davies's early effort to give the visitors a 13-10 lead, before Jamie Roberts and George North touched-down to give the Welsh some breathing space. Duncan Taylor then gave the score-line a fairer reflection of the game, with a late consolation for the Scots. Elsewhere, defending champions, Ireland, went down 10-9 to France in Paris. Three penalties from Johnny Sexton gave the Irish a 9-3 half-time lead, but following sustained pressure the hosts finally broke through with a late try from Maxime Medard, to snatch victory. In the weekend’s remaining game, England travel to Italy looking for their second straight win of the tournament (18:00 kick-off, UAE time).
