Abu Dhabi sets new rules for delivery riders

Delivery motorcyclists are no longer allowed to use the left lane on some roads in Abu Dhabi.

According to the Integrated Transport Centre, riders are only permitted to use the right lanes on roads with speed limits of 100 km/h and above.

This means, on three and four-lane roads they can only ride on the two right most tracks, while on five-lane roads, they can use three lanes from the right side.

The latest move is part of new traffic rules aimed at ensuring the safety of delivery bike riders.

As part of the latest safety plan, designated parking areas will be introduced for delivery bikes, with more than 2,800 spots planned in Abu Dhabi and 200 in Al Ain.

The ITC will also develop partnerships with companies operating in the delivery sector to provide continuous training for drivers and motorcyclists and fine-tune their skills.

A number of summer initiatives are also planned, aimed at ensuring the welfare of riders by providing them with permanent rest stops in certain areas, which will be launched in Abu Dhabi as the first phase.
