The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed all phases of the Al Khail Road Development Project, which included the construction of five bridges stretching 3,300 metres and road widening across 6,820 metres.
These improvements are spread across seven locations along Al Khail Road: Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
The project serves 1.5 million residents, cutting travel time by 30 per cent and boosting the capacity of intersections and bridges to handle approximately 19,600 vehicles per hour.
These enhancements not only improve traffic flow but also eliminate congestion at interchanges.
To expedite construction, the RTA adopted an innovative strategy, reducing the project timeline from 18 months to just 9 months by partnering with multiple contractors.
This accelerated effort saw a daily workforce of 5,000 engineers and workers logging a remarkable six million work hours, utilizing 650 pieces of machinery.
The Al Khail Road Development is a crucial component of Dubai's road network, linking major routes like Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This vital arterial road features five lanes in each direction, expanding to over six lanes in certain areas, further enhancing the connectivity and efficiency of Dubai's transport system.
