A Chinese language programme will be introduced in schools in the UAE in September.

Around 150 teachers will be recruited by the Ministry of Education for this project, while a Chinese Centre will also be established to monitor the progress.

The programme will be taught to grade 7 to grade 12 pupils at 60 government schools in the first phase.

The UAE's Minister of Education, Hussain Al Hammadi and the Confucius Institute's Deputy Chief Executive, Ma Jianfei has signed an MoU during the state visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to China.

The Ministry has seen a growing interest among Emiratis to understand the Chinese language and culture.
