Gargash says meeting with Iranian President reflects UAE's 'deterrence and diplomacy'

Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, on Sunday said the meeting between Abu Dhabi Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian reflects the UAE's stance of "deterrence and diplomacy".

He highlighted that the meeting "embodies the UAE's approach" outlined by the "dual pillars (of) deterrence and diplomacy".

Taking to social media platform X, Dr Gargash explained that "deterrence bolsters the credibility of diplomacy, while diplomacy succeeds when it emanates from a position of parity and capability, ultimately forming the optimal path toward achieving stable and sustainable regional security".

He added that Pezeshkian's stance during the conflict showed "balance and rationality," adding it cannot be "ignored" at "this delicate juncture".

Sheikh Khaled and Pezeshkian met in New Delhi, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.
