The UAE government says evidence indicates that the female immune system is more resilient against COVID-19 than the male system, due to genetic and hormonal factors.

Statistics worldwide show there are more infections among men, and clinical studies indicate the number of deaths is far greater in men than women.

During a media briefing, the UAE’s Minister of Health and Community Protection Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais said there isn’t one reason for men being more susceptible to the virus, but instead biological, social, and behavioural factors all play a role.

The government also warned against smoking saying it harms the recovery process in patients.
