More than 3,000 prisoners pardoned in UAE ahead of Eid Al Adha

The Rulers of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah Umm Al Qaiwain and Fujairah have ordered the release of 3,135 inmates ahead of Eid Al Adha.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai ordered the release of 985 inmates, while His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, pardoned 439 inmates. 

In addition, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, ordered the release of 112 prisoners, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, ordered the release of 411 prisoners, while His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 225 others. 

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, has also ordered the release of a number of prisoners.

Earlier, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 963 prisoners across the country. 

Those selected reportedly displayed good conduct and behaviour. 

The release of prisoners is reportedly intended to be a goodwill gesture by the rulers, often conducted during religious occasions.
