A committee will be established under a new resolution by the Sharjah Executive Council to improve the efficiency of assessments in addiction cases and create an integrated framework to support addicts.
The Addiction Assessment and Containment Committee, which will be affiliated and operated under the Sharjah Police, will aim to reduce relapses through early intervention, periodic testing and integrated coordination among relevant entities.
The announcement comes on Tuesday after His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), chaired the Council’s meeting at the Ruler’s Office.
The committee will be chaired by Director General of the General Department of Criminal Security and Ports. Meanwhile, the members will include directors of the Anti-Narcotics Department, Prevention and Follow-up Department, Suburbs Police Stations Department, Institutional Security Department, Community Security Department and Legal Affairs Department.
It will also include a representative from any other department or organisational unit designated by a decision of the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police.
