UAE contributes $85 million to Horn Of Africa drought relief effort

WAM

The UAE has announced $85 million - AED 312 million - to support humanitarian operations in Ethiopia.

In coordination with the Famine Relief Fund, the contribution will be paid to a number of agencies, including the World Food Programme, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations Children's Fund and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The news came during a briefing by the UN Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, on drought in the Horn of Africa.

The UAE’s donation furthers efforts in the field of humanitarian work, after the Emirates Red Crescent and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works had previously operated an air bridge and moved a relief ship to deliver humanitarian aid to people affected by drought in Somalia.
