The UAE has welcomed calls to hold an annual briefing between the UN Security Council and the League of Arab States (Arab League).
It's hoped such a move will help the Council address the security challenges in the Middle East
During the Security Council's open debate, the UAE also urged the UN body to prioritise 'preventive diplomacy' so that disputes don't escalate into conflict.
Ghasaq Shaheen, Political Coordinator, delivered the UAE’s statement during the debate convened by Mexico, titled "Peace and security through preventive diplomacy: a common objective to all UN principal organs".
The UAE gave several examples of emerging challenges that would benefit from greater coordination between the Security Council and other UN agencies, including climate change and the empowerment of women.
To better deliver on our collective promise for “We the peoples,” we must shift from a strategy that focuses on conflict management to one that prioritizes prevention.
